FAQ about the SD-Link SkyDemon Bluetooth adapters

Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find our FAQ with answers to your questions about the SD-Link SkyDemon Bluetooth adapters.

1. How do I add a new BLE device to SkyDemon?

2. Can a radio/autopilot be controlled from multiple devices (data sources)?

We are increasingly receiving inquiries as to whether a radio set or a Autopilot can be controlled simultaneously from several sources – for example via a Garmin G3X and one SD-Link – SkyDemon Bluetooth adapter.

So one Multiple control works reliably, the V24 transmitter be electrically and temporally decoupled. Without this decoupling, the various control sources could influence each other and disrupt data transmission.

Our SD-Link – SkyDemon Bluetooth adapter for TQ KRT2, spark ATR833 and TRIG TY91/92 have one Option for electrical and temporal decouplingwhich enables simultaneous control over multiple data sources. We call this feature “Dual-Source” (DS).

If you have a multiple control with a SD-Link – SkyDemon Bluetooth adapter want to set up, here Contact us for further information on the optimal configuration.

3. Can one SD-Link – SkyDemon Bluetooth adapter control multiple avionics devices?

In principle yes, but…

The RS-232 (also known as V24interface) is known as bidirectional serial point-to-point connection This means that only two devices can communicate directly with each other - one Multiple control is therefore only possible for multiple recipients.

⚙️ Technical background of multiple control
To ensure interference-free transmission, the V24 interface two widely separated voltage levels for the logical states:
−12 V for “low”
+12 V for “high”

Two transmitters on the same line would cause a short circuit in the drivers due to different levels. The RS-2 standard does not provide a way to temporarily disable a transmitter on the bus.

🔹 Why don’t TTL interfaces (0V for “low” and +5V for “high”) work with V24?
→ A direct connection is not possible because the levels are different. Here a Level converter, required to adjust the voltages.

🔌 Can a single transmitter control multiple receivers simultaneously?

✔️ Yes, but only in one direction (unidirectional).
Bidirectional communication with multiple devices is not possible.

👉 Why?
V24 receiver can be connected in parallel and process all received data packets.
V24 transmitter However, they must not be connected in parallel, as this would lead to electrical short circuit the output stages.

There is though Solutions for decoupling the transmitters (eg Wired-OR circuits), but these distort the V24 levels and lead to an increased vulnerability. In addition, the problem of Data collisionwhen multiple devices transmit at the same time.

📌 And finally ...
• A SD-Link – SkyDemon Bluetooth adapter can send data to multiple receivers, but cannot process multiple senders simultaneously.
• Recipients who do not understand the data automatically ignore it.
• For a real bidirectionale Communication Only one transmitter can be directly linked to one receiver at a time.

4. Is an SD-Link – SkyDemon Bluetooth adapter certified for aircraft?

No, currently our SD-Link – SkyDemon Bluetooth adapter not certified. Therefore, its use is exclusively for experimental purposes and is done at your own risk.

📌 Note: Our adapters are specially designed for aviation and enable seamless integration with SkyDemon and common aircraft radios. Certification is not excluded in the future.

5. Can I also control radios that are not listed in the official SkyDemon list?

Yes, this is possible, provided that the Protocol of your radio compatible at a hunt.

The GARMIN GTR225 protocol is increasingly supported by various manufacturers. If your radio GTR225 compatible be, it can be done with a SD-Link – SkyDemon Bluetooth adapter be used – even if it is not (yet) officially in the SkyDemon compatibility list is listed.

📌 Tip: If your radio is not officially listed as compatible, we recommend individual examination. Please contact us for further information!

6. Why is there no SD-Link – SkyDemon Bluetooth adapter for my radio?

The main reason is that we have not yet no specific SD-Link adapter have developed.

Since we have our Bluetooth adapter for aircraft radios continuously expand, a solution could already be in the planning stages. Please feel free to contact us via our Contact form, and let us know which device you use – we may be able to offer a customized solution or consider your device for future developments.
